Anti-Wrinkle Treatment Sydney
What Can Botolinum Toxin Do?
Botolinum Toxin (Such as Botox or Dysport) produces a freshness and youthful appearance to the face. It slows ageing of the skin by preventing the muscle contraction that causes wrinkling. Botox helps laser resurfacing to work more effectively by keeping the skin smoother. Botolinum Toxin injection is an exciting treatment to prevent wrinkles becoming deeper and to help provide a more youthful smile. It has proven extremely popular with many of our patients.
How Does It Work?
Botolinum Toxin slows wrinkling by blocking excessive muscle contraction. It is used in the crow’s feet area, between the eyebrow and sometimes on the forehead. It prevents excessive wrinkling during smiling and prevents wrinkles becoming deeper. It is most useful in younger patients.
What Botolinum Toxin Can’t Do:
Established deep wrinkles, already present at rest will not be eliminated with Botox. These may require chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing or injection for improvement. Botolinum Toxin can prevent these lines becoming deeper and can be used with laser skin resurfacing for the best result.
How we do it:
Botolinum Toxin injection is done as an office procedure. Many patients prefer some ice over the area to be treated for 10 minutes or so to numb it a little. Dr Shahidi injects the Botolinum Toxin using a tiny syringe. After treatment you can return to work immediately. Rarely the area may have a small bruise.
Timing:
Botolinum Toxin can take up to 2 weeks for the desired effect to take place and usually lasts 3 months or more. Repeat injections usually last longer, and the best time for a top up is before full wrinkling starts to recur.
Side Effects:
Reported side effects are remarkably rare. Bruising can occur in about 10% of patients. Other side effects rarely reported include dry mouth, skin rash and headache. Temporary drooping of the eyelid may occur when the Botox is injected over the eyebrow region. We do not recommend Botolinum Toxin therapy in patients with neuromuscular disease such as myasthenia gravis.
Assessment:
Most patients respond well to Botolinum Toxin, but we are unable to guarantee success in all patients. If you feel the Botolinum Toxin has not worked, you must return between 1 to 3 weeks for re-evaluation. We cannot evaluate it after that time. If Botolinum Toxin has not worked at all, we may suggest a repeat injection, but some patient may not be suitable to have Botolinum Toxin therapy.
